Abstract

The science of classification of knowledge is a unique and significant branch of bibliographical work which has been very crucial throughout the history of books and its division into various philosophical kinds. After Plato, many Greek philosophers also produced different classifications of knowledge. However, this significant classification chain of knowledge flourished to its climax when Ibn-e-Nadeem (d. 380 A.H.) in his magnum opus “Al-Fehrist” brought all branches of science into ten parts covering the extent of knowledge of his time.

Tash Kubri Zadeh (d. 968 A.H.) also rendered a unique contribution to this science by penning down his book “Miftah-al-Sa’adeh wa Misbah-al-Siyadeh fi Mawdu’at-al-Ulum” mentioning almost four hundred branches of classical sciences. Tash Kubri’s work has a marvellous impact on all the preceding works on this subject. A lessened account has been rendered on the biographical sketch of Tashkubri and his significant contribution to the classification of sciences. Thus, an introductory study is being put forth for the initiation and highlighting the work of this prolific Muslim scholar.
