He was a Sufi of the Chishti circle of tasawwuf and was a Scholar of the Hanafi school of thought. He left many books and writings about Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, Tasawwuf and Ilm ul Kalam. Pir Meher Ali learned the knowledge of Hadith from great scholars of his time and got permission for Hadith teaching from renowned scholars like Ahmed Ali Siharanpuri and Maulana Lutfullah Ali Garhi. He quoted and Interpreted Ahadith and also discussed various Uloom ul Hadith (Sciences of Hadith) in his writings. Pir Meher Ali also took practical steps to strengthen and maintain the authoritative position of Hadith during the movement of inkaar e Hadith (Denial of the authority of Hadith). He appointed many Hadith Scholars like Maulana Meher Muhammad, Maulana Fazal-e-haq Mudaddith Shams Abadi, Maulana Hakeem Qari Ahmed and Maulana Muhammad Haleem Hazarvi in different Madrassah to promote the science of Hadith and to highlight the significance of this science.
